Portfolio

My name is Katelyn Whitfield and I am an art student from Toronto.  I create art because it allows me to describe and realize the creative compositions in my head, and I love to see a piece come together under my brush or pencil. My family has been artists going 4 generations and I love to pull inspiration from other people, other artists, and the things around me. My greatest challenge has been challenging myself to make better art. So often I find that what I’m creating is repetitive and uninspiring despite being enrolled in the Arts and Culture SHSM program, the ACAM (Academy of Creativity and Multimedia) advanced art program at my high school, and all of the AP arts programs. My biggest goal with my portfolio is to showcase my creative abilities as it pertains to color, shape, proportion, and composition over a range of different styles, mediums, and techniques that I have practiced over the 6 years I have spent as an artist. I want to study visual arts because the things that artists can create from simple supplies never fail to baffle me, and I aspire to be able to learn many more techniques that will elevate and shape my art and its style as a whole. I hope to one day be able to pass my love and appreciation of the craft down to students just like me and to hopefully play a part in inspiring a new generation of creative people.
